Votebuilder Target Points Policy
Released April 27, 2021.
Updated April 27, 2021.
Targets & Target Points Overview
In order to help campaigns utilizing large universes, Votebuilder has a shared asset known as ‘Targets’ that make the process of sharing the universe and running it easier. Instead of needing to share the folder in Votebuilder, administrators can set up a target based upon a saved list or saved search and make that available to their users.
To ensure that the target runs efficiently, ‘Target Points’ are allocated to the committee to set up their targets.
To guard against potential performance issues, target points and targets are a shared resource that are limited nationally by VAN.
Target Point Availability & Eligibility
Due to limited target points in Kentucky’s VAN (500 total for campaigns), target points will be allocated to campaigns based upon a combination of several factors:
Total number of points still available
Campaign phase
If in a primary, an equitable share of points available.
Being either a nationally targeted federal or statewide campaign
A demonstrated need and use for targets
Demonstrated need and use will include total number of users pulling lists in VAN and the campaigns’ voter contact universe being >=100,000 voters (if not covered in the above criteria)
Once a campaign is allocated a certain number of target points, the total points received will be the amount that the campaign will have throughout the election cycle.
In the event that there is a primary, Target Point allocation may not occur until after the filing deadline to ensure an equitable number of points will be available.
If a campaign finds itself running up against their limitations, the Campaign Admin can reach out to the State Admin (Votebuilder@kydemocrats.org) to find a solution to work within the allocated number of points.
