During election cycles, the KDP will put in an Open Record Request (ORR) to the State Board of Elections (SBOE) to receive all Polling Locations available for a given election, including Election Day, Early Voting, Dropbox Locations, and Vote Centers, if applicable.

From this ORR, the file will be cleaned up and matched to upload into Votebuilder and IWillVote.com. Once the file is uploaded into Votebuilder, it will be spot checked to ensure accuracy and made live for all campaigns. Once this happens, an update will be sent through the `Votebuilder Users` Google Group.

With the 2020 General Election in mind, the methodology for providing that information in Votebuilder was as follows:

  • Election Day: Either the polling location for that assigned precinct (if the location was not countywide) or the closest polling location for that precinct based upon distance (if the location was countywide).
  • Early Voting: Either the closest early vote site (if there were multiple in the county permanently open) or the permanent early vote site (if there were multiple open but dates/times revolved).
  • Dropbox Locations: Either the closest dropbox location (if there were multiple in the county available permanently) or the permanent dropbox location.
  • Vote Centers: The closest polling location for that precinct based upon distance.

Due to the accuracy and availability of this information, campaigns are asked to refrain from bulk uploading polling locations as notes into Votebuilder. If a campaign is caught uploading polling locations as notes, either NGPVAN or KDP will receive an alert to pause this process and all such notes from that bulk upload will be removed.
