Wrong Numbers

To ensure our phone numbers are the most accurate, it is important to capture wrong numbers from conversations to maximize efficiency for other direct voter contact tools (such as if the campaign does a second pass of texts or calls their universe).

Please keep in mind that the contact results entered into Votebuilder from most texting API’s is linked to the person’s record. For instance, if Jim Smith’s number is (123) 456-7890, and the number really belong to Billy Smith and you mark it as a wrong number, that number will only be effected on Jim’s profile. However, if you mark Jim as 'Do Not Text' because it's a wrong number, you may be unable to text Jim again in the future.

With that in mind, if you encounter a voter who says ‘Wrong Number and remove my number’ (or some variation thereof), you should only mark ‘Wrong Number’ in canvass results

By marking ‘Wrong Number’ you will remove the bad number from their profile, and you could potentially text their correct number the next time you text your list; however, if you marked them as opt out and you are removing opt outs from your lists, you could lose a potential contact with that person.

Overall, if you run into a person that says ‘Wrong Number’ you should mark the number as bad and move on; do not mark anything else since you did not reach the voter you wanted to contact.
